For several years, I started or participated in a monthly poll on the USA Amazon Kindle discussion boards asking people a simple question: what are you reading on your Kindle? Unfortunately, the discussion boards on Amazon have gone away and I have periodically hosted something similar on our website.
Seeing as how many of us are working from home or under a shelter-in-place order, I’ve been reading more than usual lately (and I read a lot)!
I’ve received some great tips with past polls, finding out what others are reading on their Kindle, and found some “new” authors I generally wouldn’t have found using my hunt-and-peck method. While I have certainly enjoyed the “mainstream” author suggestions over the years, I’ve also enjoyed a lot of independent authors from each month’s poll I never would have heard of previously.
If you are reading this on the blog’s free email subscription, the blog’s free reader app for your Fire tablet or Android device – or anywhere other than the blog’s website – and would like to check out the poll and find some new things or, better yet, tell others what you are reading, just click here or type in https://geni.us/marchpoll into your web browser, scroll down to the bottom of the post, and start typing away in the comments section!
Here’s how this works – on the blog’s website (using the link above) list a book you are currently reading or just recently read on your Kindle, whether you would recommend it, did you get it free, and anything else you would care to share.
As I type this up I am reading The Rescue, a thriller by Steven Konkoly. I couldn’t tell you anything about it as I have just opened it up on my Kindle and will be starting it as soon as I put this post on the server. While I can’t tell you about this one, I can tell you I have read several of this author’s books and all of them were hard to put down. You can read this one for free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription (click here to learn more about Kindle Unlimited).
Finally, here’s my standard continuation of each request for prior participants in the poll: if you like or dislike a title you have read, in addition to telling us about it in this informal poll, how about writing a book review on the Amazon website? The review will certainly last and be visible a lot longer than this poll will. If you’re like me, you look at the customer reviews in order to see if you want to investigate a book further. Since we are all a little community here, and while I realize each review is each person’s opinion and we may not like the same thing, I know your friends and online discussion neighbors would appreciate your honest assessment of the likes and dislikes without providing a spoiler – I know I would!
Your reviews don’t need to be a long dissertation of the book, I like to keep them short, sweet, and hopefully to the point (some people think I am too blunt on things I dislike, but I am at least giving you my honest opinion!).
We’d really like to hear what you’re reading right now – I, for example, may find something interesting from your list I want to read (It’s been known to happen!). If you are reading this on your Kindle – or anywhere other than the blog’s website – and would like to check out the poll and find some new things or, better yet, tell others what you are reading, just click here or type in https://geni.us/marchpoll into your web browser, scroll down to the bottom of the post, and start typing away in the comments section!
Anyway, that’s all for today. Have a great week!
Michael
I am reading the Harley Merlin series.
Sawbones, by Pamela Fagan Hutchins
Hi Michael, I am just about finished reading Orion Arm: The Rampart Worlds: Book 2. by Julian May. Many years ago I read the Golden Torc series by May and suddenly thought “What else has she written”. This is a three parter, I think, and reasonably entertaining with aliens and strange flora and fauna on distant earth type planets. Why are so many aliens insect like? Something to ponder, right.
Pamela Kelly’s Nantucket Inn and about to read her sequel A Nantucket Affair.
Just reading fiction and light books. Read Michele Obama’s bio.
Written In My Own Heart’s Blood by Diana Gabaldon. I love her books. They are long and full of characters I love or love to hate. Her books are also rich with history, and I always learn something along the way. Highly recommend this author.
I finished Thief River Falls by Brian Freeman around midnight. I scrolled through my kindle and started The Watchmaker’s Daughter by C.J. Archer.
A Lass for the Haunted Highlander by Barbara Bard
Just finished Killing Kennedy by Bill O’Reilly. Now reading Killing Lincoln by same author. Both books provide historical context while knitting in the actions of important players.
I’ve read Killing Lincoln and thought it was very good, with lots of well-researched history.
Reading sinister magic just started it just finished mark of the medallion. It was very good
Everything except thrillers and horror!
Really enjoyed Audrey Faye’s 5-book series Dragon Kin. It’s light fantasy, about friendships and tolerance, dragon flight, and saving others. Humorous, warm and sexless.
After growing weary of too much murder and thrillers .I wanted something light but good..I found the books by Jean Grainger I love them..she’s like Maeve binechy. .first read the tour series, then So Much Owed, World war 2 series.which I actually liked better than the tour series..my new favoritw author….best historical fiction I have come across!! Also the Sea of Freedom Trilogy and books by Sarah Lark..very interesting information on Australia and the Maori people. I would like to read something humorous but not into celebritiy hyperbole…any recommendations??
The Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters — re-reading some old favorites.
I am currently reading The Lost Starship #10 by Vaughn Heppner. There are 11 books in the series (so far). Its a great Sci-FY series and is a showcase of Mr Heppner’s talent and never ending imagination
I’ve read those and agree, they are good!
I finished The Short Drop (GIbson Vaughn, #1) by Matthew FitzSimmons and have started The Time of Contempt (The Witcher, #2) by Andrzej Sapkowski. The entire Gibson Vaughn series is available with Kindle Unlimited and I highly recommend it.
I’ve been reading the Soren Chase series. It has distracted me from all of the bad news these days. I am also reading books by Max Lucado. These are very good and also comforting in this time. I also like the Stephen Konkoly books. They’re exciting.
I am reading “The Gown” by Jennifer Robson. A delightful historical fiction of the making of Queen Elizabeth’s (then Princess) wedding gown….relates the times and the characters involved…plus a few fictional characters to carry the story along, during post War WWII
Currently reading “The Fact of a Body,” by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich. About 30% through, and so far it’s gripping. Part memoir, part true crime. I’ve never read anything like it before.
Currently reading Imperator by Timothy Ellis. Highly recommend the entire series for military sci-fi fans. Available from KU. I’m also in the middle of the A Strong Woman in the Middle Ages series by Lina J Potter. The first two books are available on KU.
I just finished the box set by Ian Tuhovsky :Effective Communication Skills Mastery Bible” (4 books in 1). It’s currently available on Amazon Kindle for $.99. He has several others too, all separate. His offers explanations and techniques that appear to really work, plus some essential communication exercises. Recommended.
I’m also on a cozy mystery kick, reading the Familiar Legacy series about the black cat detectiveTrouble, son of another series cat, Familiar. Various authors, great fun.
I too recently finished Becoming by Michelle Obama. I didn’t need audio as I heard her voice as if she was reading or telling her story directly to me. Very interesting.
Right now I’m reading Becki Willis’s The Sisters series and loving it.
I’m currently reading JR Rain’s Vampire For Hire series, with NK Jemisin’s Inheritance trilogy waiting in the wings.
Hi, I just finished reading Escape To Osprey Cove by Luisa Marietta Gold and getting ready to start reading Return To Osprey Cove.
I’m reading Jean Auel’s Clan of the Cavebear series in 1 Kindle and Miss Perigrins series in another Kindle.
I am reading Rain Will Come by Thomas Holgate
Reading the Haunting Danielle books by Bobbi Holmes. Light fantasy and mystery. Also the Due Grafton alphabet series.
Hi Michael, I’m reading The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series by Pip Ballantine & Tee Morris… finally getting to it even though I’ve had the books for a couple of years now. Love this series. It has everything, including shootings, dynamite blasting, fantastic steampunk devices and really nasty villains…such fun.
Currently reading “The Vanished Bride”-A Bronte Sisters Mystery by Bella Ellis.
I have been reading the second book in the trilogy , One Year After: A John Matherson Novel
The Beast of Devil’s Rock by Michael Cole. Very good monster story.
I’m reading House Divided by Mike Lawson – it’s part of the Joe DeMarco series. Each book seems to get better and better.
Finished “Enemies: A War Story” by Kenneth Rosenberg. Historical fiction about two young American friends during WW2 whose lives take drastically different paths. Makes me want to research the event more on my own. Not sure if I paid for or got free; I usually only ever get them free or on sale for $0.99 (most of the time through fkbt, but once a month through Amazon Prime).
Also read “A Beginner’s Guide to Free Fall” by Andy Abramowitz. Such an odd topic, it seemed from the description (the central character is a roller-coaster designer), yet very well written and the characters were very real. I believe only his second novel. I got it through Amazon Prime for free.
I’m reading Every Buddha, Same Price: A Journal of Monastic Misadventures at Kim Son Monastery and Plum Village, France by Lorena Cassady. It’s a fascinating and funny memoir. I received a free review copy from the author and will be writing a very favorable review.
I’m reading book one of The Passage trilogy
