It’s that time again (and it has been a while)…time for another rambling blog post, where I either have no set agenda and start banging away on the keyboard or want to impart a little bit of information to you. Today, let’s call it some of both. If you would like to write to me, my email address is michael at fkbooksandtips dot com (I type it out that way in a small effort to avoid the spammers).
Email Delivery Option
There are quite a few of you who receive the blog’s post via email – it’s free to receive it that way – either as the only option to read the posts or to supplement the other methods of reading the blog (way too many options to list out in this post today).
Have you noticed a change over the last few days?
If you have or have not noticed a change, here’s what happened at the end of last week / over the weekend:
I switched email providers from a company called FeedBlitz to MailChimp.
By an overwhelming popular request, I changed the email delivery frequency from a separate email for each post to one summarized email that is delivered around 2:00 p.m. Central time.
Why did I make the changes?
I switched from FeedBlitz to MailChimp for several reasons, but the first was due to customer service issues I was having with FeedBlitz: you would think a company would respond to their paying customers’ emails and requests or, if they do, reply back in a reasonable time frame. Cost was also a factor (it ain’t cheap!), but the MailChimp option has a better integration with the giveaway software I have used from time-to-time. Yes, that means each of you should start seeing more blog-sponsored giveaways soon.
A larger reason was due to the number of emails that were being sent out, as well as the timing of the emails. Let’s face it: we’re all overwhelmed at work and home with way too many emails, and receiving 4-5 emails per day due to the blog posting was a bit much. With the former email delivery tool, I never really knew when the emails would go out: sometimes it would be immediately after a post, others it would take a few hours, they would sometime have multiple emails appear in batches on my test accounts, or some email addresses would go a few days without receiving anything to automagically restarting a few days later.
With a consistent “send” schedule of 2:00 p.m. Central time, and having a day’s posts contained in one email, I hope this will be a better alternative for those of you who selected the email delivery option.
If you would like to try out the email delivery option – again, it’s free to do so – you can click here or type in http://www.fkbooksandtips.com/subscribe into your web browser to hit the sign up page. When you’re there, just enter your email address in the space provided and click the “Subscribe” icon: you’ll then receive a confirmation email you must acknowledge / take action with in order to make sure I’m not spamming anyone.
After doing that, you should receive the next day’s posts via email: if you don’t, or haven’t received the confirmation email, please check the spam / junk folder on your computer as well as the spam / junk folder online with your email provider (Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc.).
Of course, you can unsubscribe at any time (and we will miss you terribly!)….
I know, baseball has nothing to do with a Kindle, but I thought I would continue the thread since I was bold at the start of the season…the Rangers are starting their swoon again. Growing up, this used to happen at the beginning of each August as it got really hot in Arlington. On one hand, you can say at least they waited until September; on the other, you can say why did they wait until September to wilt (and get my hopes up yet again)?
Sure, they aren’t out of it but time is a wastin’!
Kindle Daily Deal and Free App of the Day
In answer to many of your questions, yes, Amazon still has the Kindle Daily Deal and Free App of the Day. I haven’t been posting it lately as, well, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends and haven’t had much time to get the post set up before I head out to work in the morning.
Rather than waiting on me, you can bookmark these links and check them out at any time:
Kindle Daily Deal: http://smarturl.it/dailydeal
Free App of the Day: http://smarturl.it/appdeal
Just remember the deals change each day and some are great and some are, well, potential stinkers: the pricing for the Kindle Daily Deal is discounted for one day only and the free app of the day changes every day.
The New Kindle Paperwhite
How many of you ordered the new Kindle Paperwhite that will be shipping at the end of this month? I did, and I’m looking forward to it (you can click here or type in http://smarturl.it/0903 into your web browser to read my post about it). Let us know your thoughts in the comment section of the blog’s website (www.fkbooksandtips.com) or at the end of this post if you are reading this on the blog’s website.
OK, this isn’t Kindle-related, either, but I need three minutes of your time. Unless your heart is pretty hard right now, here’s a short video should touch you: click here or type in http://smarturl.it/4hqggi into your web browser. You may need a tissue at the end…
Pay it Forward!
