Permanently Deleting a Kindle Title

April 30, 2012 by Michael Gallagher

Last week, I had a post about whether or not to delete Kindle titles from your Kindles after you were finished reading them (you can click here or type in http://bit.ly/J4Tga1 into your computer’s web browser to see this post again or if you missed it).

After this post, I received several questions from folks asking “how do you permanently delete a Kindle title” so that you never see it again?

There may be times when you want to delete items from your Kindle permanently – in other words, never to be seen again as if you had thrown the book out in the trash.  I’m not talking about just from your Kindle, but permanently from your Amazon records so that you can’t ever download it again.  Forever.

Many of you may be wondering, “why would I want to do that?”

You can probably think of other reasons, but I can think of two reasons off the top of my head:

  • Your children, significant other, or someone else can also access your account with their Kindle or Kindle for PC / iPhone application, and you do not want them to know what you have been reading – maybe it’s a lusty romance, “How to Spy on Your Lover,” or any other book you may not want them to read.  For example, if you’re a parent you want to be able to monitor what your children are reading.
  • You downloaded a book you thought was one thing, realized later it was something else, and you never want to see it again.  For example, that would be a situation I would find myself in if I downloaded one of the Harlequin romances – they are just not my thing.  Additionally, Amazon utilizes what is in your list of books to market to you: I have some experience with this one, as I received some really strange recommendations for a particular genre after I bought a Kindle book that I thought was one thing but turned out to be another (enough said on that one).  Once I permanently deleted the title I thought was causing this particular point of targeted marketing, those recommendations disappeared for good.

To make a long story short, if you would like to permanently delete a title from your Kindle’s account, here are the steps you need to perform:

  • First, remove the title from your Kindle.
  • Second, go to the “Manage Your Kindle” section of the Amazon web page at http://www.amazon.com/myk
  • In this section, locate the item in the search bar just below the “Your Kindle Library” header.  If you have lots of books, for example, in your library it will take some time for all of them to load.
  • Once you have located the title, click the “Actions” icon located to the right of the title..
  • Choose the “Delete from library” option.
  • A confirmation pop-up will appear next, asking if you are sure you want to delete this title.  Assuming you really want to delete it, select the “Yes” option.

A word of caution – if you delete the title, and want to read it again, you will have to buy it again!

Hope that helps-

Michael

Sebastion Redfield is being hunted.

A young man on the brink of true adulthood, Redfield experiences the trauma of his life when a trespasser breaks into his home. The psychiatrist assigned to help him recover from the break-in begins to unravel a more disturbing truth about his ordeal: that someone or some thing has been hunting him.

Touted as “Jason McIntyre’s most complex, multi-layered, and disturbing work,” THALO BLUE delves into the life and times of Sebastion who, through his unique condition, may be the only person alive able to stop the mysterious “thief”. This figure is unstoppable, even by death it seems, and he wants something that only Sebastion possesses. An explosive confrontation in his home during the middle of a brutal winter begins their terrifying encounter, one that will eventually stretch across a city, a township and a country.

Recovery is Sebastion’s next phase of life–and not just physical recovery but an emotional healing from a life of family drama and the burden of being ‘gifted’. Sebastion and the psychiatrist assigned to help him deal with the break-in quickly realize that the ordeal is not over. Now, to save his own life, he and the therapist must dredge up his dark, painful past for clues as to who or what the terrifying thief may be.

Part literary noir, part mystery, and part horror, THALO BLUE is sure to paralyze readers and keep them gnawing at their nails at each startling revelation.

Cederdale Court – Free from Amazon Kindle Store

Category: Mystery & Thrillers

Full of daring fools, haunting old flames, and brimming with panicked villainy, Cedardale Court captures the final days of Canner Connelly’s ten year struggle; his quiet avoidance of death. Despite his best efforts, and a well-intentioned move to the Oregon countryside, the safety and peace-of-mind he’s longed for since the passing of his wife, for him and his daughter, Chloe, finally appears to be within reach. But, upon waking the next morning, the promising start at Uncle Henry’s falls rather short as the sun comes up over the tree line, and the ever inept inhabitants of Cedardale Court begin to start their days. A domestic dispute, a little reckless driving, and a broken fire hydrant later, what normally might have been a very enjoyable Sunday quickly turns into a slightly darker affair as a severed human hand, well, half of one really, turns up in Uncle Henry’s bushes. Things only get messier, and more frightfully uncertain as, one by one, the secrets that have so carefully been kept, for so very long, start to unravel for everyone. For Canner and Chloe, amidst the drunkenness, burgling, kidnapping, extortions and murders of the people around them, suddenly it’s no longer a struggle to maintain normalcy, or even an attempt to deny the familiar ghosts lurking around every corner; it’s now a question of whether or not they’ll come out of this with their wits, or if they’ll even make it out at all. In the face of the monstrously absurd, this little neighborhood, this absolutely out of control cul-de-sac, might serve as the key to opening the door for Canner and Chloe’s new life, or it might be exactly what it appears to be; the gateway to the undoing of them all.

For those who’ve picked up Revelation and wondered why Armageddon happens more than once, or which comes first, the Trumpets, the Vials, or the Seals, this is a book that will clearly chart out for you a timeline of events, harmonizing the four accounts of Christ’s Second Coming.

Whether you are new to Revelation or have studied it for years, you will enjoy the short stories that bring Revelation to life. Experience the faceoff between the two witnesses and the Antichrist at the temple. Watch as a living, breathing statue commands the world to worship the Antichrist and receive his mark. Rejoice as the Messiah rescues His chosen people hiding within the rock city of Petra.

This book will help to answer your questions with an in-depth look at the three raptures, the seventy-five days between the Tribulation and the Millennium, the differences between the Red Dragon, the Beast of the Sea, and the Beast of the Earth, and Daniel’s Beast; as well as the history of Baal, Nimrod, and Babylon.

Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

Naya Adams has given up on feeling loved. A walking cliché, Naya lost her parents in a freak car accident at thirteen and has been living with her detached foster ‘adults’ ever since. When Naya enrolls in one of the most respected theatre programs in New England, she is more than eager to trade in her pain for the spotlight. College would finally be the fresh start she’d longed for.

Unfortunately for Naya, her high school boyfriend, and abuser, Seth, tags along–trapping her in the cycle of tarnished love.

Accustomed to emotional numbness, Naya enters her first acting class, unaware of what was waiting on the other side of the door: her Twin Flame. Rarer and more intense than soul mates, Twin Flames span centuries looking for their other half. It is in another student, an olive-skinned and terribly scarred sophomore named Etash, that Naya will discover what being loved really means.

Although they both try to resist each other, their bond is ultimately too strong. Together they’ll learn that this is not the first time they have been pulled together, nor will it be their last.
But how will her abuser react to Naya’s new flame?

Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:

On the voyage home to the Azores Islands, Eva accepts the pagan name of Arethusa but learns too late that her life will mirror the Greek nymph’s tragic end. Her mother reveals that her destiny lies with Diogo, the shipowner’s volatile son. But Eva has a vision of another…

When the ship founders in a storm off the coast, Tristan, a local boy, saves her life and steals her heart. Destined to be with Diogo yet aching for Tristan’s forbidden love, Eva must somehow choose between them, or fate will choose for her.

This is an engrossing novel in which several strands of myth combine to create a complex yet beautifully simple romance. It is at its highest level an exploration of fundamental philosophical questions–the debate between fate and choice, the nature of love and desire, the tenacious and often dangerous hold of belief on the human psyche. At bottom, and the reason why you will love it, this is a bildungsroman about a girl finding her way to adulthood and a story about two lovers both separated and entwined by their beliefs.

Kindle Fire Giveaway Round II – Sign Up Now!

April 29, 2012 by Michael Gallagher

It’s time to do it again…

Between right now and midnight on Sunday the 6th Eastern time (actually, 12:01 a.m. on the 7th, so let’s call it midnight), you can sign up for a free Kindle Fire.  Similar to the last giveaway, there are just a few rules:

  • To enter, you must give our Facebook page a “Like.”  Once you enter below, you will be taken to the Facebook page to complete the process.  If you enter the giveaway, but don’t give the Facebook page a “Like,” you will not be entered into the giveaway.
  • Some of you have told me you don’t “do” Facebook and that’s okay – you just won’t be able to enter for a chance at this particular giveaway.  On the other hand, you could sign up for Facebook just for this giveaway and forget about it after this week has ended.
  • You can only enter once!
  • If you have previously “Liked” the Facebook page that’s great – yes, you can still enter the contest.

In return, here is what I will do:

  • Randomly draw one winner from all of the entries.
  • Have Amazon ship out a brand new (i.e., not a refurbished) Kindle Fire to you.  I will also provide the lucky winner a tracking number.

When I did this at the end of March, the giveaway generated a lot of fun and excitement not only for me but the blog readers and Lyndell K. of Pennsylvania, who was the lucky recipient of the Kindle Fire.  Seeing as how the blog membership has now exploded due to the free app for your Kindle Fire (you can click here or type in http://amzn.to/freefireapp into your Kindle Fire’s or computer’s web browser to see it), I’m hoping the number of entries will be a lot more than last time.

If you’re reading this on your Kindle and not the actual blog page, you can go to your computer’s web browser and type in http://bit.ly/KkCGBS and enter away!

To tell if you are registered or not:

  • Assuming you are already logged in to Facebook, in the right-hand corner of the signup script, if the green box says “1/1” (without the quotes), you are signed up.
  • If you’re not logged in to Facebook, that’s okay – try to sign up again and see what happens (better to be safe than sorry)
  • If the green box says “0/1” you are not signed up – if you think you signed up previously and this box still has a “0/1” on it, I don’t know why it didn’t take: please sign up again!

Previously “Liked” the Facebook Page?

I’ve received a few questions from people who have previously “Liked” the Facebook page, and they want to know if they can still enter the giveaway for the Kindle Fire.  Of course you can!  Here’s what you need to do:

  • Click the icon “Login with Facebook”
  • When the Rafflecopter popup appears, click the “Login with Facebook” icon.
  • You will then be re-directed to the blog’s signup for the giveaway page – click the “+1 DO IT” popup on the right-hand side.
  • Click the Already Liked then click the Enter icon.

Website Owners / Authors

Several people have asked me how they can have their web visitors join in on the giveaway. There are two ways:

  • Just link them to the giveaway page on the blog – just use the links I gave you at the beginning of this post.
  • You can embed a widget just like the one I have on the blog’s page to your website.  Just go to http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/share-code/NzBhNjM2ODUzMDE4Y2M3ZWNhNzViMDc1YTI5ZjdiOjE=/ and follow the easy instructions (if I can figure it out as an accountant, it has to be easy).  All entries will go into the same hat!

That should do it – and good luck to everyone!

Michael
