Here is the book’s description from the Amazon website:
In this day and age, very few people question why they should quit smoking. There is little else in the world that is so universally accepted as bad. It is just plain bad. It is bad for your health, bad for your bank account, bad for your social life, bad for the resale value of your car or home, and bad for the people around you.
Smoking just makes living harder.
In light of that, we have to wonder why it is that people smoke in the first place? If we understand why people smoke, perhaps we can understand what it takes to stop.
To successfully quit smoking forever, mere abstinence does not appear to be enough. In addition to stopping the physical act of smoking or the physical ingestion of nicotine, something else has to change. A person has to come to see smoking – not as something that they don’t do or are not doing, but as something irrelevant to them. In other words, they have to learn to see themselves and the world in different ways. They have to learn new strategies for coping, and they need to have constant reinforcement of those new strategies and perceptions.
