Attached is another one of the “rambling” blog posts where I don’t have much of an agenda before I start banging away on the keyboard, but this one is primarily answering a few questions about the blog I’ve received via email. If you would like to write to me, my email address is michael at fkbt dot com (I type it out that way in a small effort to thwart the spammers).
Hard to believe, but today marks the 8th anniversary of “officially” starting the blog – where I moved it from a free WordPress site to a dedicate website. The blog started off when Amazon would have one – maybe as many as three – free books offered for the Kindle for less than 24 hours, and I had a mailing list of less than ten friends and coworkers I would email about that day’s offering each morning before heading off to work. I started off with a free WordPress site because I kept having people asking to be added to the list, and I wanted something easier than pasting lots of emails together.
Some of you have been with me since I launched that first website: who would have thought it would have become this big or last this long? I certainly didn’t, and thanks for sticking with me over the years!
USA Presidential Election
On a positive note, the election will be over after today…until the whining begins by the losing side (they all seem to whine a lot to me).
On a negative note, we will either (a) have a person who is infatuated with money, will accept any bribe, and changes positions to meet the latest poll, or, (b) have a person who is infatuated with money, acts like a bully, and changes positions to meet the latest poll. My European friends and former coworkers wonder what happened to America. So do I…
If you haven’t voted, please do or forever hold your peace (see this post)!
Fire Tablet Giveaway
There are only ten days to go (count ‘em!) until the latest giveaway comes to an end. Have you entered? It’s free to enter, and you will get more chances thrown into the hat if you tell a friend or tweet about it: this is for the largest size Fire tablet Amazon is selling right now. It’s easy to enter, just click here or point your web browser to http://smarturl.it/1016fire – it should take you all of ten seconds or so to enter!
Several someones emailed me to say I didn’t let you know who won the past two giveaways – I thought I did, but I realized I didn’t.
The winner of the Amazon Echo was Janice B from Charlottesville, Va and the winner of the last Fire tablet giveaway was Carol W. from Bandera, TX. Each of the winners have emailed me back and saying they are loving it. I’d love to add one of you to the next list of winners!
And, yes, once this giveaway is over I have a good feeling there will be several more before Christmas…
Fire Tablet Review
A few months ago, I told you I purchased the newest Fire tablet and I would review it once I had a chance to test it out. I think it is a great value for the price (just $119), but if your existing tablet is working just fine there is no need to rush out and buy one of these because there aren’t that many new / noticeable whistles and bells. You can read the review I wrote for it if you click here (which means the negative votes will start rolling in).
Reading the Blog on Your Fire
Ever since the first e-Ink Kindle was released, people have been able to read the blog on the their e-Ink Kindles via a wireless delivery each time a new post hit the site. Unfortunately, Amazon has not allowed that functionality to be available to the Fire tablet without a lot of manual intervention.
Several years ago, I hired a group of talented programmers to create an app for the Fire tablet to be able to read the blog – for free, of course. I’ve put a pitch to it at the bottom of many posts in an effort to tell you about it, but I receive a lot of emails asking “what does this mean?”
Clearly, I need to work on my messaging…
If you would like to be able to read the blog’s posts directly on your Fire tablet – or any Android device such as your phone – just download the free app. You can get it for free from the Amazon app store if you click here and download / install it. You can get it for your Android phone using the same link or directly from the Google Play store if you click here.
Surprisingly, this app has been downloaded and installed almost a million times. Now, if I could only find a way to get just one dollar for each install!
Admittedly, I’ve been a little lax in posting tips to the blog over the past few months. I can’t even make up a good excuse except to say life has a way of getting in the way of good intentions. If I were you, I would be looking for some in the near future!
That’s all I have for this post. Thank you for your support of the blog over the years (I still can’t believe it has been 8 years)!
